Abstract

The Paralympic Festival is coordinated by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee - CPB and seeks to promote sports activities adapted for children and youth with and without disabilities aged 10 to 17 years in Brazil. In 2019, the Festival brought together about 11 thousand young people in 70 cities of the 27 federation units. The activities are developed by teachers and academic volunteers of Physical Education. Thus, the objective of the study is to describe the perceptions of the students of the Physical Education Course, who volunteered at the Paralympic Festival, regarding the contribution of this event to their academic training and to the people with disabilities who participated in the event. This study is characterized as descriptive and exploratory, with a qualitative approach, its sample corresponds to 17 volunteers, of both genders, who were interviewed through a structured questionnaire with open questions. It was observed that the main contributions to the formation of academics were: the possibility of practical application of knowledge and also, the expansion of this. We also highlight the perception of the possibilities of people with disabilities who participated in the event. Thus, we consider the participation of Physical Education students in events of this nature to be fundamental, being a possibility to qualify future professional performance and also, to broaden their perception of the potential of people with disabilities from the insertion in sports.
