DYNAMICS OF URBAN TRANSFORMATION NEAR THE PATIO RORAIMA SHOPPING IN BOA VISTA-RR

The urban space of Boa Vista has the characteristics of a medium-sized city in the Northern Amazon, with modest changes in view of the great evolution of Brazilian cities in the south and southeast of the country. This scenario changed considerably in the years 2012 to 2016, with the construction and operation of large commercial enterprises of significant size, such as shopping centers. Shopping malls emerge as artificial spaces for entertainment in modern life. The construction of the first shopping mall in Boa Vista, according to the standards of the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (ABRASCE), marks a phase of profound evolution in space and in the lives of local residents. This study aims to record and analyze urban changes in the vicinity of the first shopping mall in Boa Vista, from its construction (2012) to the first two years of operation (2016) and the impacts on the daily lives of the local population. The methodology applied in the study corresponds to descriptive and explanatory research, with interviews with residents in the vicinity of the construction of the mall. At the conclusion of the studies, it is noted that the changes occurred mainly in the space where the mall is located and on the highway in front of it. In the surrounding neighborhood the changes were minimal and the responsibility of the residents themselves, such as renovations of some houses. The infrastructure of the neighborhood, in the area analyzed in the research, remains precarious, constantly needing repairs and maintenance.
