GUARDIANS OF THE SEEDS OF LIFE IN THE VALLEY OF RIO PARDO - RS

Creole seed guardians and guardians are farmers who rescue, plant, select and conserve their properties over time, ensuring the preservation of agrobiodiversity. The present work aimed to elucidate the reasons that lead them to conserve their seeds and the relationship they establish with the preserved varieties. Through a qualitative methodology, the technique of direct observation with the use of semi-structured questionnaires was used to interview fifteen guardian farmers and guardians involved in the production, exchange and commercialization of Creole seeds and the actions and movements of Entities participating in the Articulation in Agroecology of the Vale do Rio Pardo (AAVRP) for the protection of Creole seeds that occurred in this area of activity. It was concluded that when conserving biological diversity they also ensure the historical and symbolic values expressed by the Creole seeds, and conserving them represents more than agricultural production itself, as they make up productive, environmental and socio-cultural relations that permeate the life stories of who preserves them
