Abstract

The study was performed to identify the knowledge that the villagers of Apiaú (Mucajaí municipality, State of Roraima) have on the ACL (American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis), aiming the indication of transmission control measures of disease in that locality. From January to June 2010 was applied questionnaire with open and closed questions covering epidemiology, prevention and treatment. The study population was 130 out of a total of 659 inhabitants. Of the interviewees, 43% do not know who transmit the ACL, 17% had heard of ACL through the Health Community Agents, 76.9% did not know the drug used to treat, 79% unaware of treatment in the Public Health System and 74.6% did not use measures of disease prevention. We concluded that the level of knowledge that people have is disabled to assist the prevention of transmission to the disease, and recommended the implementation of measures of health education as well as reviewing and monitoring the actions of the Family Health Strategy in the locality.
