Sendo parte do projeto de pesquisa Narrativa Oral Indígena: registro e análise na Terra Indígena Alto São Marcos RR, este trabalho analisa as várias versões que envolvem o mito de Macunaima, tradicionalmente vinculado às comunidades indígenas dessa região. Para tanto, tomase por conhecimento parte das narrativas orais obtidas em visitas a estas comunidades, utilizando a metodologia da História Oral. Além disso, a obra Macunaíma, de Mário de Andrade, é também estudada no intuito de compreender novos aspectos relativos ao mito surgidos a partir de sua publicação, como a vinculação desse mito a toda uma identidade nacional. Nessa perspectiva, serão buscadas similitudes e diferenças entre essas versões, na busca de conhecer as múltiplas leituras acerca do ser mitológico Macunaima.
